Most people can agree that going to the cinema to view a film is a fundamentally different experience than watching one at home. While both have their benefits, there is no denying that going to the cinema makes for a more magnificent film experience. Sometimes you want to sit on your couch and mindlessly scroll through the TV options, but for the full cinematic experience, you need to go to the movies.

For lots of individuals, going to the movies is a lifelong source of delight. For others, it is a beloved hobby that can’t be replaced. If you need to remember why going to the movies is so unique, then read on for eight reasons to go to the movie theater instead of watching a film at home.

1. Screen Size

Even the biggest home TV screen can’t compare to the size of the screen at a movie theater. There is just something special about watching visual storytelling happening on a gigantic screen, especially when a movie takes advantage of the format. The sheer scale of the screen makes it easier for you to be swept away and be fully absorbed in the story. You always get a feast for the eyes, too.

2. Luxury Seating

Today, many boutique theaters have luxury recliners that are much more comfortable than (most) home couches. Some movie theaters also offer platinum movie suites that boast spacious seating, a relaxed ambiance, and the ultimate in viewing comfort. By opting to visit a boutique cinema, you can be assured that you are going to have the most comfortable seating possible (plus extra elbow room!).

One of the benefits of choosing a smaller, more luxurious cinema (over a large chain) is that all the seats are situated with a fantastic viewing angle. Therefore, no matter where you sit, you don’t have to worry about straining your eyes or neck to get a good view.

3. Premium Formats

You can’t watch Imax or 3D films at home, and usually, doing so significantly upgrades the movie-watching experience. While not every movie requires a premium format, when particular movies come along (like “Avatar”), the effect is mindblowing. After all, everything in the movie theater is designed to serve the film. Each feature is there to present the art as impressively as possible.

Not to mention, the sound systems at your local cinema are cranked up nice and loud, and you don’t have to worry about your neighbors. The size and resolution of the screen combined with the perfect calibration of audio ensure that all your senses are captured (in the best possible way) as cinema output is likely far more impactful than what you have in your house.

4. Focus

Generally, when you play a movie at home, you immediately get distracted by something else. Perhaps your child is waking up from their nap, or the door-bell rings, or your best friend who lives in a different city calls – you get the point. This can’t (or, at least, shouldn’t) occur when you are sitting inside a movie theater.

The room is dark, so your focus is drawn to the movie exclusively. Then, once the lights go down, you can block out all external disturbances and simply permit yourself to be wholly transported into the film’s world. After all, isn’t that the inherent joy of movies – in that they provide you with a vessel to escape reality for a few hours. Plus, making an effort to go to a place mainly intended for movies gets you in the right headspace for a truly cinematic experience.

5. Snacks

You can’t think about a movie outing without immediately thinking of the snacks stand. For most people, the snacks and drinks options really complete the overall experience. Have you ever had microwave popcorn that tasted the same as it does at the theater? Probably not!

But that isn’t your only option; today, it is becoming more popular for boutique cinemas to have a range of cuisines and eateries as options. Furthermore, in some locales, you are able to choose food from a menu and have it delivered straight to your seat while you watch the previews (this probably wouldn’t happen in your own home!).

6. Previews

One of the best parts about watching a film at the movie theater is that it forces you to stop and learn about all the upcoming movies in Dubai. The previews are the ideal time to get yourself comfortable, start enjoying your snacks, and hold-hands with your date. Being reminded of all the movie magic that is soon going to come into your life is a pleasant way to start the experience.

7. Ambiance

Taken together, these aspects add up to creating a fantastic experience, whether it is for a first date, a children’s birthday party, or an outing with friends. Whenever you need to get out of the house, going to the movies is the ideal option. Plus, sometimes you want to hang out with people but not have to interact with them – we have all been there!

There is something about being with a large group of people when watching a movie that feels really special — those moments when everyone laughs together at the same time, or gasps during a plot-twist. A shared experience is an elevated experience. Even though you aren’t talking to each other during the movie, being around many people and experiencing the film together is something that can’t be replicated at home.

Do you prefer going to the cinema or watching movies at home? Why? Do you enjoy some genres on the big screen and some from the comfort of your own house?
