The Three Types of Moving Services

The Three Types of Moving Services

While most people enjoy the idea of moving to new places and entering new phases of life, many will admit that the hardest part is the moving process itself. Not only are you responsible for ensuring that all of your business tasks are taken care of, but also the packing and transportation of your personal belongings. Luckily, there are a few options to choose from when selecting a moving service. The type of service you choose will largely depend on your personal preferences and budget.

1. DIY Moving

Do-it-yourself moving services are ideal for people who are interested in saving money and are willing to do all of the heavy lifting themselves. In this case, the only service the moving company is providing to you is the use of their moving van, truck, or trailer. And this means that you’re responsible for the entire moving process. You do the packing. You load all of your personal belongings onto the truck. You drive the truck to your destination. You unload the truck. You unpack your things. You then return the truck to the designated rental location.

This option is mostly used by people who can enlist the help of friends and family–especially in cases in which heavy furniture is being moved. The only fees are the truck rental, mileage, fuel, and any damage that may be incurred. If you have the time and would like to save some cash, DIY is the best option.

2. Self-Service Moving

If you don’t mind doing the heavy lifting but dislike the idea of having to make long trips in a large vehicle, self-service moving is an excellent option. In this case, the only service the moving company is providing to you is the use of their moving van, truck, or trailer and a driver. This means that you’re only responsible for packing, loading, unloading, and unpacking your belongings. The process is simple. The moving company delivers the vehicle or trailer to your home and then you pack and load all of your belongings. The driver then picks up the vehicle or trailer and delivers it to your desired location. Once there, you’re responsible for unloading everything. Finally, the company picks up the vehicle or trailer.

This option is great for people who live in cities with lots of traffic or narrow streets and would prefer to leave the driving to the pros. Financially, there are several factors involved. How much you pay will depend on how far you’re moving, how many items you have and the location you’re moving from and to.

There’s always a chance that you don’t have the time or manpower to pack, load, unload, and then unpack. You may also prefer to have someone else do the driving. Well, if you have a generous budget, full-service moving is the best option. Full-service moving companies take care of every single stage of the moving process: packing, unloading, driving, unpacking, and unloading.

While this option offers a lot of conveniences, it is the most costly. Full-service moving companies typically charge by the hour. They also take into account how many rooms must be packed, the size of the rooms, where you’re moving from and to, and the total number of miles that will be traveled.

The process of moving can be extremely stressful. This is especially the case if you have a lot of personal items that you would like to take with you. The good news is that there are several options available to make your move as convenient and budget-friendly possible.
